Amber Heard is moving forward after the court case where she and Johnny Depp accused each other of lying.
In May 2016, Heard, who was 30 years old, asked for a divorce from Depp, who was 52. She also wanted the court to keep him away because she said he treated her badly and used drugs. Depp strongly denied this. By August 2016, he agreed to pay her $7 million for the divorce, and she promised to give it to charity. He also gave her $500,000 for her legal costs. They finished their divorce in January 2017.
In 2019, Depp sued Heard for saying bad things about him in a December 2018 article she wrote in The Washington Post. In the article, Heard talked about herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse,” but didn’t say Depp’s name.
The trial lasted for six weeks and began in June 2022. It became a big public thing, and they talked about private things from when they were married, how they got divorced, their money, and other relationships like Heard’s past with Elon Musk. The trial was also a problem for their careers.
The trial ended with a decision that mostly favoured Depp. He won in all three cases where he said Heard defamed him, and the jury said he should get more than $10 million. At the same time, the jury also gave Heard $2 million because of something she said about Depp.
After the decision, Heard released a statement with mixed feelings. She said she was “disappointed beyond words” and felt bad that even with all the evidence, it still wasn’t enough to fight against the big power that her ex-husband had.
After the trial, Depp, who is 60 years old now, acted in a movie called “Jeanne du Barry,” which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. He also went on tour with his band, the Hollywood Vampires. On the other hand, Heard, who is 37 years old, mostly stayed away from being in public. She left her home in California with her daughter to find more privacy after the big trial.
According to what someone said in a magazine report from April 2023, “The trial was super stressful, and she wanted to start fresh.”

After the trial finished on June 1, 2022, a jury in Fairfax, Virginia, first said Depp should get $15 million. But later, Judge Penney Azcarate changed it to $10.35 million because the first amount was too much based on Virginia’s rules.
The jury also said Heard should get $2 million for one of the things she complained about Depp. In that complaint, she said Depp’s lawyer, Adam Waldman, said bad things about her and her friends, accusing them of making up a lie about Depp.
Because of what the jury said, Heard got new lawyers and asked for the trial to be done again, or for another judge to decide. (Depp also didn’t like the decision about Heard’s complaint.)
In November 2022, Heard’s lawyers said that the trial should have been in California where she and Depp lived, but it was in Virginia. They also talked about how Depp lost a trial in the UK about something that was written in a newspaper. Her lawyers said the decision wasn’t fair. They also said that what Heard wrote in her article was her opinion, and she should be allowed to say it.
But in December 2022, Heard said she wouldn’t ask for another trial and would settle with Depp. Even though the first jury said Depp should get more than $10 million, they agreed to settle for $1 million. Depp’s lawyers said he would give this money to five different charities. Heard got the money in June 2023.
Will Amber Heard Appear in ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’?
Yes, Amber Heard will be in the new Aquaman movie called “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.” It will come out in December 2023. Even though she had some problems during the trial, Heard will still be in the movie. She also said during the trial that she worked really hard to make sure she could be in more movies.
But because of all the fighting with Depp, her part in the new Aquaman movie will be smaller than before. Her character, Queen Mera, will not be as big in this new movie as in the first Aquaman movie.
Heard’s agent, Jessica Kovacevic, said that the smaller part was because of a lack of good feelings between Heard and Jason Momoa, who plays Aquaman. But Heard thought it was because of the bad things people were saying about her.
Walter Hamada, who was in charge of DC Films, said that what Heard said wasn’t true. He said the new movie was supposed to be more about Aquaman and another character.
In July 2021, Peter Safran, who makes the Aquaman movies, said that even though people were saying bad things, they never wanted to take Heard out of the movie. He said they thought that if James Wan directed the movie and Jason Momoa was in it, then Amber Heard should also be in it. He said that’s what they believed.

What is Amber Heard currently working on?
In May 2023, Heard told reporters that she has new movies coming up, but she didn’t say what they are about.
In June, she talked about her first project after the trial at the Taormina Film Festival. She was there to support her movie called “In the Fire.” In the movie, she plays a character named Grace who is a doctor. The story is about Grace going to Colombia in the past, in 1899, to help a boy who people think is being taken over by something bad.
Heard said that “In the Fire” is a special movie about love and its strong power. It’s about how love can go beyond limits and be really strong.
Heard made “In the Fire” after the trial in the UK but before the trial in Virginia. People who worked with her on the movie said she was really brave. The director, Conor Allyn, said she has a good future in acting. Another actor, Luca Calvani, said that what she went through was tough, but she’s strong.
After the film festival, Heard put pictures from the event on her Instagram and thanked everyone who supported her.
In a talk with Deadline in the same month, Heard said she wants to do different types of movies. She wants to do big ones like “Aquaman” and also smaller ones like “In the Fire.” She thinks it’s important to find a balance between these two kinds of movies. She said if an actor can do both, that’s a sign of doing well in the acting world.
